Meet the Leaders who run the Pack
The Leaders are all volunteers, giving up their time and effort at no cost to the Cubs or their parents!

Hi, I'm Akela (also known as Wayne). Akela ('the old grey wolf') is the leader of the Pack. Chil & Bagheera work with me and keeps me in line! I've been a Cub Leader since early 1999 and, among other things, have been a Leader at 3 Cuborees and 1 Scout Jamboree. I reckon we all have a lot of fun at Cubs because as Leaders we work together to come up with really good programs and lots of fun activities, camps etc.. This keeps everyone excited about coming to Cubs. We help the Cubs earn lots of badges along the way and, in the end, get 'em ready to take on Scouts! In my long dark distant past, I was a Cub too (hard to believe eh?) and then went on to Scouts, Venturers and Rovers. I've been a Cub Scout Instructor (as was Chil) and later a Scout Leader - a long time ago! |

Hey there, I'm Chil, also known as Laura. I've previously worked as a Cub Instructor, but now as a Rover I'm starting at Rosanna Cubs while getting proper leader training, so no worries.
I've had a longish involvement with Scouts, starting off in Joeys, a big blank area where I may or may not have gone over to Girl Guides and done Brownies, and then Scouts to where I am at Flinder's Petri Rovers (which, also happens to meet at Rosanna Hall, only of a Thursday night for those of you with siblings/kids over the age of 18…). In that time I’ve been involved in a Jamboree, the Melbourne Gangshow, a Venture, and a few other Scouting activities here and there, so if any of the Cubs want to know what sort of things they can do in Scouts, I can tell them plenty!
Oh and my resemblance to Akela is pure coincidence. No father-daughter team going on there at all.

Hi, my name is Bagheera (also known as David). I emigrated from England to Australia in 2003. I have had no previous association with the Scouting movement, only to be introduced to Cub Scouts when my son Samuel joined.
I went along on 'Big Camp' in November 2007 and enjoyed my involvement so much that when Akela asked me if I would like to become a leader, I thought "Why not?"
Everyone I have met has been very friendly and the children are great fun. I also went on Cuboree and had loads of fun with everyone there.
My journey has just begun.

All of the Cub Leaders take a name from the Jungle books - only the 'good guys' though! - so you'll never see a Leader called Shere Khan or Tabaqui for example.
Some of the most common ones are shown in the table below. The Leader of the Pack is ALWAYS Akela, who was the Head Wolf of the Pack in the Jungle Book.
Because of their central role in Mowgli's life in the Jungle Book, the next two most common are Baloo (the bear who taught Mowgli) and Bagheera (the Panther who saved Mowgli's life by killing a bull to exchange for it). Then, there are a number of other common ones. Some are used by Leaders who want something a little bit different.... and for those you need to look in the full list!
The most commonly used ones are:
| Akela | The Great Grey Lone Wolf - Leader of the Pack | Ar-Kay-LA! |
| Baloo | Brown Bear | Baa-Loo |
| Bagheera | Black Panther | Bag-eee-rah |
| Rikki Tikki Tavi (Rikki) | Mongoose | Rikk-ee |
| Kaa | Rock Python | Kaa |
| Chil | Kite (Bird) | Chill |
| Hathi | Wild Elephant | Harty |
| Mang | Bat | Mang |
| Raksha | Mother Wolf | Rak-shar |
| Rama | Great Herd Bull | Ra-Ma (as in Raa-Maa, but quicker!) |
