These are the major activities coming up for Rosanna Cubs.
Big Camp - Camp Warringal
A major Cub activity, in 2004 and 2007 - and again on the long weekend in March, 2010. Over 3 days (Sat-Mon), we'll take part in Big Camp III. Held around every 3 years, this camp is huge! We'll be camping in tents, alongside Cubs from throughout our District and a number of other Districts - somewhere around 200-300 Cubs! We'll do tons of fun stuff like canoeing, horseriding, toboggans, bush skateboards, billycarts and tons more, so stay tuned for March, 2010!
A camp for to be held each year for Cubs in their last year and a bit before going up to Scouts (when you're ready to work on your Grey Wolf Award and get ready for Scouts). The first one will be 13-14 March, 2010. We'll join with a number of Cub Packs from around the State and do lots of activities that are a bit more challenging, as you learn things to help you when you go out to earn the Grey Wolf Award. The camp also helps you get more prepared for the move up into Scouts.
On the camp you'll learn how to plan your Grey Wolf hike, about the inviting and how to choose where you're going to hike. We'll plan our own 'practice' hike and then do it - and afterwards we'll see what we can learn from how what we planned worked out when we did it for real. Hopefully you'll then be more confident about planning your own hike. We'll also learn about some of the different types of resources you can make for your Six or Pack - to give you some ideas on doing your own. We'll do the Level 2 Bushcraft Badge - which might help towards the 4 Achievement Badges for your Grey Wolf AND we'll also tie that in with learning more about what it'll be like going up to Scouts. You'll be working in 'Patrols', be cooking on gas and sleeping in tents.... Oh, and you'll have tons of fun too - of course!!
We have a First Aid Camp each year for older Cubs - Learn tons of First Aid, and take a test to earn your Level 2 First Aid Badge. The camp is usually held in June at Camp Warringal.
....and there'll be more to come... this is just a taste!
....And of course, as part of Cubs, a bit further out there's plenty of other Major Activities happening on an ongoing basis, such as:
Jamboree of the Air (JOTA) - 17th October with 1st Eltham and 1st Chelsea Heights this year We go along and talk on Ham Radio and the Internet with Cubs and Scouts from around Australia and around the World, plus plenty of other activities!
This year we've had our second Pack Holiday - at Pax Hill Scout Camp at Ballarat - we went away for a weekend, had a special theme (EUREKA!) and had tons of fun! In 2010 - who knows where we'll be!
District Camp is held every few years - like a Pack Holiday, but bigger! All the District gets together for plenty of activities over a weekend.
- and that's just a few... we're always off doing something, somewhere, so be prepared for plenty of fun!
So, what if I'm about to go up to Scouts?....
When you go up to Scouts, the big thing to look forward to there is Jamboree! Held each 3 years for Scouts from all over Australia and the world, this goes for around 2 weeks and is huge! Check out the Australian Jamboree 2010 (AJ2010) website at http://www.scoutsaj2010.com/.
